How to Make Sweet Potato Buns

Making your own burger buns is very easy. Here are the simple steps to follow:

  1. To a large mixing bowl, add flour, yeast, mashed sweet potato and water. Combine with a spatula or with your hands to form a dough ball.
  2. Knead the dough by hand for 5 minutes on a lightly floured working surface.
  3. Place the dough back into the mixing bowl, cover it with a kitchen towel and leave it to rise at room temperature for 90 minutes or until doubled in volume.
  4. Once the dough has doubled in volume, place it onto a lightly floured working surface and knead it for 2 minutes.
  5. Form a ball and divide it into 4 equal parts. Roll each part into a ball with your hands.
  6. Place the 4 balls in a baking dish lined with parchment paper and leave them to rise again in a warm place for 30 minutes or until puffy. Make sure they are not too close to each other.
  7. Preheat your oven to 390°F or 200°C. Brush the tops of the buns with some plant milk and sprinkle sesame seeds. Press slightly with your fingers so the sesame seeds stick to the buns.
  8. Bake for 15-20 minutes or until golden brown. Transfer to a cooling rack and allow to cool completely. Fill with vegan falafel patties and enjoy!!

Best Burger Buns for a Brunch or a Picnic

If you need recipe ideas for a brunch, a picnic with your family or a party, I think these buns are great. They are the happy medium between healthy and comforting food.

If you want to make rainbow buns for even more fun, you can use normal potato, orange sweet potato and purple sweet potato.

Fluffy and Oil-Free Sweet Potato Buns

If you like to cook without oil, this recipe is great because the buns are very soft and fluffy even if they are oil-free. The mashed sweet potato adds a lot of moisture to the buns, which is why they are not dry at all.
